Battle of Britain Wings Appeal

Nuneaton Air Cadets have been busy collecting funds to support former war heroes and their families.

Members of 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron were out in force in the town centre on Saturday 26 th September collecting donations from passing shoppers.

The collection was part of the ‘Battle of Britain Wings Appeal' by the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA), which provides for help and support for former members of the RAF and their families. With approximately 80,000 members and 500 branches in the UK , Europe and beyond the RAFA needs all the help it can get and the cadets were determined to do their bit.

Last year the Nuneaton Air Cadets won the prestigious RAFA Coventry Branch, Wings Appeal Trophy, which is awarded to the Coventry area Air Cadet unit that raises the most money during the street collections and the cadets were keen to exceed last years total of £737 to be in with a chance of retaining the Trophy for a third consecutive year.

Flight Lieutenant Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron said, “We are delighted to have been able to help the Coventry Branch Royal Air Forces Association with this years Wings Appeal and demonstrate the commitment of the Squadron as a whole to our work with ex service organisations within our community.

He added, “Next year will be the 70 th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and we are already making plans to mark this special occasion during next years Wings Appeal Collection.”

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made donations today for their generosity.”
