On Saturday 18th October members of staff and civilian committee members from 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron attended the annual Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing dinner and dance at The Village Hotel in Coventry.
The staff from 121 Squadron once again made a grand entrance to the dance when they arrived champagne glasses in hand at the venue in their stretched limousine. If there were a prize for turning up in style we would have certainly clinched it.
150 Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing mess members, guests and friends of the Wing enjoyed a three course meal followed by dancing.
Messages were read out from the Regional Commandant and Wing Commander, neither of whom could be present and the Guest of Honour was the Wing President Air Commodore Duncan Mitchell formerly Head of the Centre for Defence Medicine in Birmingham.
It was also a sad occasion as two stalwarts from the Wing were being dined out. Flt Lt Sam Collins a past member of 121 Sqn, former CO of 2286 (Arden) and 489 (Acocks Green & Olton) Squadron and WO Derek Docker who was an ex cadet at 8F Sqn and had re-joined 163 Sqn on their civilian committee and been appointed a Warrant Officer 1988 before transferring to 2028 (Southam) Sqn where he has remained until now.
The PMC Sqn Ldr Martin Harrison paid each of them a well deserved tribute praising their commitment and dedication over the years and they were each presented with a Wing plaque and a bouquet.
Of the event Sqn Ldr Harrison said, " Another successful evening that seemed to have been enjoyed by everyone and certainly from the positive comments I have received this would seem so. A lot of hard work does go into organising these dinners but it is made worthwhile if our staff go away with a positive buzz"
The evening was a great success and an opportunity for the Squadron staff and committee to get together socially and enjoy a night out together. Having left the function the staff from 121 continued to enjoy themselves as they journeyed home in the luxurious splendour of the Squadron limousine.
