Following on from their outstanding success in the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing Swimming Championships, two Nuneaton based Air Cadets have been back in action, this time adding Regional and National Championship medals to their ever increasing tally.
Having won a clutch of Gold medals in the local Air Cadet Swimming Championships Cadets Gemma Porter and Joe Peffers who also swim for Nuneaton Swimming Club were selected to represent the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing in the Central & East Regional Swimming Championships at RAF Cranwell.
During the Regional Championships Gemma set the pace for the junior girls when she took the Gold in the Breaststroke and then went on to win a second gold as she propelled the junior girls Medley Relay team into first place. She also took Silver in the Individual Medley. Joe added to his collection of medals when he took Silver in the junior boys Medley Relay and a Bronze in the Breaststroke
Gemma was subsequently selected for a return trip to RAF Cranwell to represent the Central & East Region in the Air cadet National Championships where she gained a Silver in the junior girls Breaststroke and a Bronze in the Medley Relay. Both of Gemma's medals helping the Central & East Region swim to victory in the National Championships.
Flt Lt Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron said, “ Gemma and Joe both powered their way through the Wing Championships and were selected for Regional collecting a truly impressive array of medals on the way. Gemma's two Regional Gold's subsequently led to her selection to represent the Central and East Region at the Nationals for the second year in succession”.
He added, “Between them Gemma and Joe have clocked up a staggering total of seven Gold, two Silver and two Bronze medals during the 2010 Wing, Regional and National Air Cadet Swimming Championships. We are all absolutely delighted with their performance and the way they have represented their Squadron.”
