Following on from her outstanding record-breaking success in the Central & East Regional Swimming Championships, Nuneaton based Air Cadet Gemma Porter and her fellow Cadet, Joe Peffers have been back in action, this time adding National Championship medals to their ever increasing tally.
On the 14 th November Cadets Gemma Porter and Joe Peffers, the only two cadets from Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing to be selected to represent the Central & East Regional Swimming team, traveled to RAF Cranwell to take part in the Air Cadet National Swimming Championships.
Gemma Porter who recently set a new record-breaking time in the junior girls breaststroke at the Central & East Regional Championships was the first of the two Nuneaton cadets to hit the water. Having an excellent start of the block Gemma powered her way through the water to win the junior girls breaststroke with a convincing lead over her rivals. Gemma added a second National Championship Gold to her collection when she swam in the junior girls medley relay.
Cadet Joe Peffers also put on a notable performance in his second race of the day, taking Bronze in the junior boys medley relay.
Flt Lt Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron said, “Gemma and Joe have both powered their way through the Wing, Regional and now National Championships collecting a truly impressive array of medals. No doubt, Gemma's two Gold's today have enabled the Central and East Region junior girls team to win the Air Cadets Training Centre Trophy. Joe's Bronze in the junior boys medley relay also helped to bump up the points for the Region helping Central and East to take first place in the overall National Championship”.
He added, “Between them Gemma and Joe have clocked up a staggering total of seven Gold, one Silver and two Bronze medals during the 2009 Wing , Region and National Air Cadet Swimming Championships. We are all absolutely delighted with their performance and the way they have represented their Squadron.”
