Two of 121 (Nuneaton) Squadrons Civilian Instructors Karl Whoppers and Peter Hadley will soon be hanging up their civvies and donning their RAF blue uniforms following their official appointments as Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCO’s) in the Air Training Corps.
Karl and Peter both started their military careers as Air Cadets with 121 Squadron and then went on to serve as regulars for 22 years, so they are no strangers to life in uniform.
Karl Whoppers originally had his first taste of military life as an Air Cadet with 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron where he reached the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) before joining the Army. He served in the British Army with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) reaching the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 (Artificer Sergeant Major). During his 22 years of service Karl was deployed to various locations throughout the world in support of military operations and engagements.
Peter Hadley also a former Cadet SNCO with 121 Squadron went on to serve in the Royal Air Force as an Airframe and Propulsion Technician, reaching the rank of Sergeant. During his 22 years of service, Peter was deployed to various locations throughout the world in support of military operations and engagements including the Falkland Islands and Afghanistan.
On announcing the appointment of Karl and Peter to uniformed posts, Flight Lieutenant Paul Hincks Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron said, Karl and Peter both come to the squadron with a wealth of previous regular service experience and will make a very much needed addition to the Squadron’s uniformed staff.”
He added, “I am delighted that the value to the Air Cadets of both Karl and Peter’s previous regular service experience and ranks have been recognised and it gave me the greatest of pleasure to announce the appointment of Karl Whoppers to the rank of Warrant Officer and Peter Hadley to the rank of Flight Sergeant in the Air Training Corps.”
