Sea and Air Cadet Field Gun teams both had their sights set on winning the new Nuneaton Carnival Gala Gun Run trophy when they went head to head to ‘Run the Gun' for the second time this month.
The Cadet Field Gun Run is normally an annual event held at the 30 Signals regiment open day at Gamecock Barracks but this year due to popular demand the Nuneaton Carnival Gala Gun Run was the second of three runs planned for 2013.
The first competitive run of the season between all three Cadet Forces, held during the Parachute Regiment day in Bedworth was won by the team from the Air Cadets. So when the Sea and Air Cadet Gun teams stepped out into the Carnival Gala arena both teams were gunning to win the new trophy.
Much to the delight of the large and enthusiastic crowd, the two teams of 10 cadets were quite evenly matched as they ran the Field Gun against the clock, disassembling, reassembling and manhandling their replica gun and limber around the course. Both teams provided an excellent demonstration of teamwork and discipline with the Air Cadet team completing the run in the shortest time thus taking the new Nuneaton Carnival Gala Gun Run trophy.
Flt Lt Paul Hincks Officer Commanding 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron said, “I am delighted to say that the Cadet Field Gun Run continues to act as an excellent demonstration of the importance of teamwork within the cadet forces. All the cadets have worked extremely hard today and I am glad that both the Sea and Air Cadets have been able to do their bit to help to make the Nuneaton Carnival Gala such a success. “
He added, “As I said previously, this Gun Run was the second of three runs planned for 2013, the first two having been won by the Air Cadets. So if you haven't had the chance to see the Cadets Run the Gun, you will be able to see the Gun Teams in action in the main arena at the 30 Signals regiment open day at Gamecock Barracks on 30th June when the Cadet Forces go head to head as they Run the Gun for the third time this year. Will the Air Cadets win again? Or will the Sea or Army Cadets take the trophy.”
