Air Cadets Put their Training to the Test in the Dark!

Royal Air Force Air Cadets from 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron abandoned their normal parade night, donned their DP (disruptive pattern) uniform and cam cream and headed off to Gamecock Barracks near Nuneaton for some Fieldcraft Training.

The night time Fieldcraft Training and Navigation Exercise was held within the training ground of the 30 Signals Regiment Gamecock Barracks and was the culmination of weeks of training and preparation. The training exercise was split into several elements, each designed to give the cadets the opportunity to put their classroom-based training into practice under field conditions and more importantly in the Dark!

The Officer Commanding 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron Flight Lieutenant Paul Hincks said, “The cadets always enjoy these fieldcraft training Exercises, and it was good to see the cadets working together and getting stuck into the tasks they've been given. It's amazing how eager the cadets and for that matter some of the staff are, to get their disruptive pattern kit on and cover themselves in cam cream. For many of the cadets this was the first time they have taken part in a night time fielcraft exercise so that was a bit of an eye opener for them and it was good to see everyone pushing themselves well outside of their normal comfort zone both physically and mentally to complete each task. One thing's for sure, we all had a lot of fun and it was most definitely a bit of a change to our normal parade night, which will give the cadets plenty to tell their family and friends when they get home”.

“I would like to thank 30 Signals Regiment, our adult staff and especially the Cadets themselves for making this a truly successful and enjoyable exercise for all involved”.
