Three members of the civilian staff at 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron have recently exchanged their civvies for RAF blues.

Norma Easterlow , a local mother of three, recently took the next step in her career within the Air Cadet Organisation when she was awarded a commission in the Training Branch of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Norma now Pilot Officer Easterlow who originally joined 121(Nuneaton) Squadron as a Civilian Committee member and more recently served as a Civilian Instructor will now take up her new post as Squadron Adjutant.

Civilian Instructor Amee Easterlow joins her mother as she also dons the blue RAF uniform as an ATC Adult Sergeant. Unlike her mother Amiee is no stranger to the uniform having served as a cadet for 5 years and reaching the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer. However being back in uniform is not going to be all plain sailing for Amiee who said "Having an Officer as your mother takes a little bit of adjustment, I simply can't get to grips with having to call her Ma'am instead of Mum and having to salute her every time I want something." Sergeant Easterlow will continue in her role as the Squadron Band Master and will be taking on additional responsibilities as a qualified First Aider and instructor.

Civilian Instructor Nick Hammond is the third member of the Squadron staff to successfully pass his boarding. Nick, who was also cadet with the squadron reaching the rank of Cadet Sergeant, will be going back into uniform as an ATC Adult Sergeant. As well as his normal instructional duties Sergeant Hammond will be responsible for coaching the Squadrons Field Gun team and has plans to become more involved with the Squadrons adventure training activities.

Flight Lieutenant Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 Squadron said "As newly uniformed members of staff Pilot Officer Norma Easterlow and Sergeants Amiee Easterlow and Nick Hammond will undergo additional staff development training before attending their Initial Officer and NCO training Courses at RAF Cranwell".

"I am delighted to have three new uniformed members of staff. The air cadet organisation needs more people like Norma, Amiee and Nick, adults with a sense of adventure and few spare hours to help to train our cadets. Adult staff play a vital role in all aspects of the Squadron, organising activities, encouraging and training cadets or helping the unit to run smoothly"
