We left for RAF Cosford at 8.10am and arrived about 9.30am . All the players were introduced and we were given our kit and tracksuits. Later, at 10.30, Central & East kicked off the Inter-Region Junior Rugby Championship against South & West for an entertaining 12-0 victory, but a fiercely fought match.
At 11.30, we played Scotland & Northern Ireland. The match was a forwards game and the S & NI forwards were later tired by the physicality of the C & E pack. We managed to win with a comfortable 24-7 win but the S & NI scrum half pulled of the move of the game were, he pulled of the move of the match as he smoothly carved his way through our No.8 & No.7.
As we were undefeated in both games, we progressed into the final. We were to play the hosts and also undefeated, Wales & West. The next 30 minutes were going to be crucial if we were going to go home with gold. We all thought we could pull it off, beating the hosts at their own tournament we were wrong. Most of us thought we were playing 16 men including the Referee who was making some lacklustre decisions. After 6 minutes, W & W scored due to a silly mistake that the Ref should have given us a penalty for. Once again, the C & E forwards proved they were the best 1 - 8 in the tournament by tackling hard and trying to find that extra power for C & E to score from. After a poor timed tackle by one of the players, let W & W winger stroll in for a try which was converted. Final Score: W & W 12 - C & E 0. We were presented our silver medals by GP Capt Mike Cross, Chief Of Staff at HQAC. Overall, C & E left bitterly disappointed by the outcome of the game and the poor decisions of the Referee.
