On Sunday 13 th February, Cdt Cpl Brown and Cdt Routley from 121sqn represented Warwickshire and Birmingham wing at the
Central & East Region Inter-Wing Rugby Tournament. Meeting up with the rest of the wing rugby team in Hinckley , they boarded the coach and set off for R.A.F. Cranwell. R.A.F. Cranwell is the Headquarters of the R.A.F. and the site on which the Headquarters of the ATC stands.
The coach left Hinckley at 8am and an hour and a half later arrived at the gates of Cranwell.
Each match was 20 minutes long. 10 minutes per half.
The first match we played was Against Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire wing. It was a meanly contested game which we won 22 -0.
Our second match was against Trent wing which resulted in a 7 -7 draw. This match was by far the physically toughest match because the sheer size of most of the Trent wing team.
The previous match sent our team through to the final. The final was against South and East Midlands wing which resulted in us losing 0 - 3. The game was even throughout until 30seconds from the end we conceded a penalty which the opposition converted for 3points. It was a harsh defeat, but our team came through heads held high as good sportsmen to take a very dignified second place. Every one earned a wing blue (shown above) and a silver medal. Cdt Routley earned a place at the junior regional rugby trials. I did not get a place because I will be too old for junior level when the trials come around.
