Our squadron was invited to visit the nerve centre of the R.A.C
based at Walsall. It's from this centre that all the regional emergency
calls, which have been made to the motoring organisation, are dealt
with. We were shown the many stages that followed on from the receiving
of the call: the processing of the problem to the position of the
breakdown being radioed to the closest recovery van.
They explained that the latest in computer technology would soon
be installed replacing their original system. This being the same
one as both the Police and Fire Services use which should lead to
an increase in efficiency.
After an interesting visit our squadron made a donation to Motability
and B.E.N, the benevolent fund for the motor industry, which are
the two charities supported by the R.A.C.
