Royal Air Force Air Cadets from 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron fielded a team of 10 competitors for this year’s Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing Athletics championships at the Tudor Grange Park Stadium in Birmingham.
Our small but enthusiastic team gave the other 26 units within the wing a good run for their money coming home with and outstanding total of 8 medals, 3 Gold 2 Silver and 3 Bronze and there were several instances when we only just missed out on getting even more.
Cpl Hughes was 1st in the 800m and 3rd in the 200m
Cdt White was 2nd in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m
Cdt Brown was 2nd in the 800m
Cdt Blood was 1st in the 300m and Javelin and in our view should also have had the 3rd in the 100m
Cdt Gibson was 3rd in the Shot Putt
Every cadet within our team did their utmost to represent their Squadron and we should all be justly proud of their achievements today. Hopefully the example set by the cadets in today’s team will act as an example in order to encourage more of our cadets to take part next year.
All said, an extremely successful day for 121 Squadron thanks to all the efforts of the cadets and staff who took part.
Several days after the competition, Officer Commanding 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron Flight Lieutenant Paul Hincks said, “We have just had the full listing of results from the Wing Athletics on Sunday and in addition to getting the 8 medals, 3 Gold 2 Silver and 3 Bronze, our relatively small team of 10 budding athletes also pulled off some very creditable team results being placed 4th in the Class A boys, 5th in the Class D girls, 5th in the overall Girls and finally coming home with a more than creditable 6th place out of 26 Squadrons in the whole Wing".
"Now that's, thanks to every single member of our team who helped us pile on the points, is a brilliant result for 121 Squadron".
