Royal Air Force Air Cadets from 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron fielded a team of 15 competitors for this year’s Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing Athletics championships at the Tudor Grange Park Stadium in Birmingham, by far the biggest turnout we have had for several years.
The Air Cadets from the Nuneaton based Squadron were up against stiff competition from cadets of 26 other Air Cadet units in both track and field events and did their absolute best to Run, Jump and Throw their way into medal winning placings. Thankfully all their efforts paid off with an outstanding haul of four medals.
Faith Hughes put in a brilliant run to come home with the Gold in the 800m,
Ronan Dykes gained a Silver in both the Long Jump and the 1500m
Benjamin Little gained a Bronze in the High Jump
As a further result of the successful efforts of the Squadron team Cdt Faith Hughes has been selected to represent the Wing in the 800m at the Regional Athletics Championships and Cpl Matthew Waudby was also selected to represent the Wing in the 4 x 100M relay.
Flight Lieutenant Paul Hincks Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron said, “I am so proud of the effort put in by all our cadets, many of whom took part in three events. Everyone in the team did their very best for the Squadron and as a result of their outstanding performance our team have come home with a total of four medals and two of them have been selected to represent the Wing".
“A brilliant effort by everyone who took part and I would also extend my thanks to staff and all of those who came along to support the Squadron”.
