Eight Cadets from 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron did their utmost to Run, Jump and Throw their way to winning three Gold’s and 1 Bronze medal at the recent Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing athletics championships at the Tudor Grange Park Stadium in Birmingham.
The Air Cadets from the Nuneaton based Squadron were up against stiff competition from cadets of 26 other Air Cadet units in both track and field events and did their absolute best to come home with as many medals as possible. Thankfully all their efforts paid off with an outstanding haul of four medals.
Cdt George Mouncer collected Gold medals for both the 300M and 800M
Cpl Breanne Richter won the Gold medal in the 400M
Cdt Sean Gallemore gained the Bronze medal in the 1500M
As a further result of the successful efforts of the Squadron team Cdt George Mouncer and Cpl Breanne Richter were selected to represent the Wing in the Regional Athletics Campionships. Cdt Hollie Farmer who achieved the fourth fastest time in the 100M was also selected to represent the Wing in the 4 x 100M relay.
Flight Lieutenant Paul Hincks Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron said, “I am so proud of the effort put in by all our cadets, each of whom took part in three events. Everyone in the team did their very best for the Squadron and as a result of their outstanding performance our small team of eight cadets have come home with a total of four medals and three of them have been selected to represent the Wing".
He added, “As I said, we couldn’t ask any more of those cadets who represented the Squadron this year but we may have stood a chance of coming home even more medals if some of our other cadets had volunteered for the team. I can only congratulate those who did step up to the line to represent their Squadron and hope that the stalwart efforts of FS Connor Little, Sgt Matthew Carrington, Cpl Breanne Richter, Cdt George Mouncer, Sean Gallemore, Hollie Farmer, Atlanta Curless and Alex Kilpatrick, act as an example to encourage more of their colleagues to take part and represent their Squadron at future sporting activities”.
