Bulkington Celebrates Armed Forces Day

Nuneaton Air Cadets showed their gratitude and respect to the service men and women of the British Forces when they took part in the Bulkington Armed Forces Day Parade on Wednesday 27th June..

The Bulkington parade was led by Pipes and Drums and included a large contingent of 258 Signals Squadron from nearby Gamecock Barracks. The colourful Parade of Royal British Legion, ex-service Association and Cadet Standards, veterans and youth organisations marched through the flag lined streets of the North Warwickshire village as it made its way to the open air Drumhead Service on the green outside St James Church.

The Vicar of Bulkington, the Rev Paul Messam, led the service during which the Union Flag and the standard of the Bulkington Branch of the Royal British Legion were draped over the traditional makeshift Drumhead alter.

After the service, the parade reassembled and marched back through the village where the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, the Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth and the Officer Commanding 258 Signals Squadron took the salute during the march past.

Flight Lieutenant Paul Hincks Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron said. “Armed Forces day is a special time for everyone to honour the men and women of the armed forces, who are risking their lives on the front line, especially in Afghanistan and I am delighted that so many young people, not only from the cadet forces but also other youth organisations have turned out to support our forces.
