When the 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Junior five-a-side football team started their match against 496 Squadron confidence of a win through to the next round of the Wing competition was high.
Oliver Parsons of 121 scored the first goal and George Mouncer the Squadrons goalkeeper, was doing a brilliant job of deflecting all attempts by the opposition to score. Unfortunately this wasn’t to last and 496 eventually equalised.
So with the score at 1-1 both teams battled away in an attempt to clinch the winning goal but as the full time whistle sounded the score remained unchanged and it was into extra time and the Golden Goal.
Unfortunately for the 121 team, 496 eventually managed to slip through the 121 defence to put the ball in the back of the net to win the game 2-1.
Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Flt Lt Paul Hincks said, “The Squadron’s Junior five-a-side lads played really well as a team and when they got the first goal of the game we thought we were really in with a chance of winning. Both teams played well and with the game going to extra time it was only a matter of time before one side or the other would score that Golden Goal”. Our team; Adam Harris, George Mouncer, Oliver Parsons, James McCafferty and Dylan Powell should not be disappointed, they definitely maid 496 work for the win.
